      How You Progress

Student Sports Tier & Selection Policy

To promote both athletic excellence and inclusive participation, the Department of Physical Education & Sports follows a Three-Tier System for sports involvement across all campus activities and facility access.

      Tier 1

      University Teams

Role: Serves as the official representation of the university in Inter-Collegiate, Inter-University, state, and national-level competitions.

Expectations: Members must maintain regular attendance at training sessions, display high-level technical skill and tactical understanding, adhere strictly to the student-athlete code of conduct, and uphold strong academic standing.

      Tier 2

      Reserve Team · Developmental Squad

Role: Acts as the primary pipeline and backup for the University Team in the event of player injuries, absences, or tactical rotations.

Expectations: Members train alongside or in coordination with the main squad. Players showing consistent performance improvements, technical growth, and commitment are eligible for promotion to the main University Team.

      Tier 3

Recreational Team · Community & Fitness

Role: Designed for students who are not part of the University or Reserve teams but wish to learn a sport, stay physically active, and enjoy campus facilities purely for health and recreation.

Expectations: Focuses on skill development, fair play, and general fitness. Members have designated access to facilities during open / recreational hours.

      Selection Criteria & Progression Pathway

Placement across all three tiers is based on merit, dedication, and sportsmanship:

      • 01
Intra-Mural Performance Performance during internal university tournaments, leagues, and trial events serves as the primary benchmark for squad selection.
      • 02
Training Regularity & Discipline Consistency, punctuality, and effort during scheduled sports department practice sessions are essential for remaining in or advancing through the tiers.
      • 03
Continuous Evaluation The progression between Recreational, Reserve, and University teams is dynamic — players who demonstrate exceptional growth in lower tiers can be promoted, while those failing to meet attendance or discipline standards in higher tiers may be reassigned.

From Campus Play to University Honours

Whether you play for fitness or aim to represent the university on the national stage, there is a place for you.

Participate in Intra-Murals → Train Consistently → Move Up the Tiers!

Athlete Code of Conduct & Fair Play Pledge

Code of Conduct: University Team members serve as official ambassadors of the institution. Any unsportsmanlike behaviour, equipment vandalism, or disciplinary breaches on or off campus leads to an immediate suspension from all university sports representation.

      Out On The Terrain

      Safety Measures & Outdoor Guidelines

The Department of Physical Education & Sports prioritises the safety and wellbeing of all students. Anyone engaging in outdoor, off-campus, or terrain-based activities around the campus must strictly adhere to the following safety protocols:

      Trekking & Terrain Exploration Permissions

      • Mandatory Clearance Students planning to go trekking, hiking, or exploring the surrounding Lavasa terrains must obtain prior formal permission from the Department of Physical Education & Sports.
      • Intimation Protocol Details including the planned route, group members, estimated departure time, and expected return time must be logged with the department before embarking on any trip.
      • Group Requirements Solo trekking is strongly discouraged. Groups must carry basic first-aid equipment, fully charged mobile phones, and designated emergency contact numbers.

      Water Body Restrictions

      • Strict No-Entry Zone Students are strictly prohibited from entering, swimming, wading, or going near the edge of any natural or artificial water bodies (lakes, streams, reservoirs, or rivers) in and around Lavasa.
      • Hazard Warning Terrain water bodies can feature sudden depth drops, strong underwater currents, and slippery banks. Unauthorised access poses severe life-threatening hazards and will lead to strict disciplinary action.

      Keeping Standards

      Reporting & Enforcement

To report rule violations (e.g., improper equipment handling, unauthorised use) or damaged facilities, please submit a report via the Department Redressal Form. Reports are reviewed by the Department of Physical Education & Sports to maintain safety and equipment standards.

Khushi Jha, Women’s Badminton Team, CHRIST Pune Lavasa Campus

      Khushi Jha

      Women’s Badminton Team

I feel extremely proud and grateful to have been a part of this family and institution for the past five years. During my journey, I had the opportunity to represent CHRIST University in several outstation tournaments, which greatly contributed to my growth as a sportsperson and as an individual. The University has always consistently encouraged and supported me in pursuing sports at higher levels. One of my most memorable moments was when I was selected to participate in the Inter-University South Zone Badminton Tournament to represent the team of CHRIST University — I was supported wholeheartedly. I sincerely thank our Sports Coordinator, Prakash P Sir, for his constant guidance, motivation, and encouragement. Without his dedication nothing would have been possible; huge credit goes to him in my journey of transformation and success. I am also deeply thankful to the University authorities and the Department of Physical Education & Sports for providing such a platform.

      Sherick Matthew

Sports Head & Captain, Basketball Team

I am deeply grateful for joining the University basketball team. Initially, I felt lonely and shy due to the language barrier, but my seniors and Prakash Sir supported me immensely and never let me feel left out. They guided and corrected me like elder brothers, helping me improve both personally and in basketball. Participating in numerous tournaments significantly enhanced my skills. Over time, I formed strong friendships not only within the team but also with students from other sports — today, most of my friends are from the sports community. This university has provided me with incredible opportunities and constant encouragement. I have never regretted joining the team and am truly thankful for the trust placed in me through leadership roles. My journey at CHRIST has been truly enriching.

Sherick Matthew, Sports Head and Captain of the Basketball Team, CHRIST Pune Lavasa Campus
